Denny Kim, our CEO and one of our directors, has spent most of his 20-year career evaluating and investing in financial services companies across sub-sectors, including banking, FinTech, insurance, insurance services, specialty finance and wealth management. Over the course of his private equity career, Mr. Kim executed the acquisition of more than $70 billion in assets across these financial services sub-sectors and the capital raising of more than $2 billion of equity from private institutional investors for private equity fund commitments and co-investment opportunities.

Mr. Kim is the Founder of Whale Point Capital LLC, a newly established independent sponsor firm focused on providing growth capital to financial services companies. Since 2020, he has served as a member of the board of directors of Sterling Bancorp Inc. (NASDAQ: SBT), where he is chairman of the Asset-Liability Committee. He is also the managing principal of 7911 Partners LLC, a private investment and advisory firm he founded in 2019. Among its engagements, Mr. Kim advised Gemspring Capital, a middle-market private equity firm with $1.5 billion in assets under management (“AUM”), from 2020 to 2021, where he sourced and evaluated investments across the financial services spectrum. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kim was a founding member of WL Ross & Co.’s financial services investing team. From 2010 to 2018, he was a senior investment professional and Investment Committee member at WL Ross & Co., a private equity firm founded by former U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur L. Ross, where he specialized in financial services investments. During his tenure, WL Ross & Co. grew its AUM to more than $8 billion and established itself as one of the pre-eminent private equity investors in the financial services space.
