Slip into your hip waders and hang on to your big umbrella: The U.S. stock market tumbled for the third straight day early today – Monday, April 7, 2025 – due to investors’ fear of the fallout from President Donald Trump’s tariffs. The IPO Calendar this week features only four small deals aiming to raise a total of nearly $75.0 million. Another four tiny IPOs that could raise up to $33.1 million combined may get done this week, pending regulatory approval and market conditions. Several high-profile big IPOs, including Klarna and its plans to raise up to about $1 billion, have been put on hold since the market’s brutal plunge last Thursday – April 3, 2025 – according to The Wall Street Journal.
The blue-chip Dow Jones industrial average sank 1,200 points at the open as the broad S&P 500 edged closer to a bear market.
Traders have increased their expectations for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates this year to “the equivalent of five quarter-point moves,” according to Bloomberg. The swaps market is indicating “a 40% (percent) chance of a cut by next week, well before the Fed’s meeting in May,” Bloomberg reported.
Stay tuned.
